Angels Landing Wednesday Theme: Gifts

First off, I want to thank everyone who stopped by the Angels Landing very first blog hop - it was a big hit! I also had so much fun hopping to all of the DT members blogs to see their fabulous creations - lots of great inspiration to kick off the new release. Also, thank you so much for all of the wonderful comments! You all have been such an inspiration for all of my projects and cards! You all made me SMILE BIG!!!

The theme this week at Angels Landing is gifts. I chose to create a gift card holder for a little girl. This could go to a baby girl or an older child. The images on the gift card holder was inspired by a Barnes & Noble gift card (pic below) that my daughter received awhile back for her 3rd birthday. It is already used but I tend to keep used gift cards knowing that one day I could recycle them on a card - in this case, I am using it as a sample. In light of the Barnes & Noble gift card, I thought it would be a great idea to marry a bookmark card with a gift card holder. So I took inspiration from SCS member Shel9999 (Michele), MFT DT member, who created a tutorial for a removable bookmark seen here. I've been waiting for a reason to make one of these unique cards and this was the perfect week to make one for AL.

As you've already probably seen, Judi released a new set called Toys on Wheels last week. Let me tell ya, this is one of the cutest baby sets ever! I just couldn't wait to work with the images again! They are truly great to use for babies to preschoolers/toddlers.

I used the little ducky (inspiration from the gift card), the number 4 and letter U from the Toys on Wheels digi set. I had a vision in my head on how I was going to create the piece to hold the bookmark. But, of course, it did not go the way I wanted so I ended up creating two circles that holds the bookmark. Two strips of cardstock were punched with the Martha Stweart lace punch and embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder for added interest and color. The duck was colored with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil (as well as the number 4 and letter U), cut out and popped up on dimensionals and is sitting on top of the actual bookmark. The number 4 and letter U, and the middle of the wheels were adorned with a coat of glitter glue and 3D dimensional paint called Glittering Crystal to match the glittery flowers on the patterned paper (hard to see since it is mostly covered with cardstock strips). I used my Making Memories slotpunch tool to create a slot for the ribbon to go through and added a button and string to tie the ribbon together.

A second duck (popped up on dimensionals) was created to sit on top of the base of the card so it wouldn't look so bare when the bookmark is being used.

On the inside, I created a pocket made out of patterned paper and used my slit punch to create the scallop border with gray cardstock. I used double stick tape on three sides to close up the pocket.

So, in all, this is like a 2 in 1 gift - the recipient not only gets a gift card, but the recipient also get a nifty (and cute) bookmark to use.

I will have more projects to share on Friday so make sure to come back then! Thanks for visiting!!!

Beautiful, love how you incorporated a bookmark. Is there a template for this card somewhere? Would love to make some of these.

Alma, your choices of colors and patterns are perfect for this. Love the removable bookmark and the way you put a second ducky on the card so that it wouldn't look empty without the bookmark in place. Great idea.
