Angels Landing: Have a Koala-rrific Day!

This week at Angels Landing is all about birthdays! This is a special month because this is my birthday month - YAY ME!

I created this fun fold card called a Full Card Front Tri-Shutter card based on the TLC221 challenge on SCS. Ever since I've seen this in the SCS gallery, I've been dying to try to make one. Boy, lemme tell yah, it proved to be quite a doozy for me.

First off, I followed the tutorial from Bonnie (you can find it here) using 8.5 x 11 cardstock. After the card was scored and slits were cut, I realized that I actually made a longer card with finished measurements of 3 3/4 x 8 1/2 when folded. BUT all was not lost, I took advantage of the size of the card to make a nice display for a bookmark clip as well as a place to write your own personal message on or to simple attach your favorite picture. I followed the sketch from the Sheetload of Cards July issue for the layout (sketches come in real handy when you get stuck on a layout). I used the koala holding a balloon from Aussie Animals. I made my own computer generated sentiment "Have a Koala-rrific day" using Century Gothic font in size 18. The koala images were colored with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil. The background patterned paper was embossed with the Happy Birthday embossing folder. I used the slit punch once again to create a vellum border on the top and bottom of the patterned paper. This is the first time I've used at least three different kinds of Nestabilities on one card. I finished it off with 2 prima flowers, metal trimmed sticker in the middle of the flowers, 2 butterflies using the Martha Stewart butterfly punch (embossed with the Paisley embossing folder). It was really tricky to cut the center pieces of patterned paper but with a little patience it can be done. I had to look at Bonnie's picture long and hard to figure out how to cut the dp in a peculiar shape.

For the third panel, I created a fun paperclip bookmark using the same koala image minus the balloon (I used Aleene's Paper glaze to glue the two scalloped pieces together to the paperclip and set aside to dry - it takes at least one day to completely dry). This would make a great gift for the avid reader. The bookmark is nestled in between a slit on the cardstock and dp. Then I covered the slit with a birthday sentiment from Pierced Tags.

What a smart way to include that removable bookmark clip.

You did an awesome job with the coloring on those two koalas. Your light highlights really add depth and dimension to the shapes.
