Cherry the Moment

This is the last week to see fabulous samples from the Sheetload of Cards and the Cutting Cafe DT using the sketch from the Sheetload of Cards June issue.

My second sample uses the Fruit Greetings printable stamp set (here is a link to my watermelon card). I love working with digi files because they are so easy to manipulate (I'll have to put a tutorial on how to work with digi-stamps one of these days). Recognize the patterned paper??? This is the same paper I used for my apple shaped card (seen here). This paper was fun to use with the cherries. I paper pieced the cherries, watercolored the stems, and added some bling bling. The sentiment is computer generated using a font called Orange (what'd ya know - a fruity font to go with a fruity card- LOL). I used the SU slit punch to make the green border on the side. As an added embellie, I used a pop can tab as a slider for my ribbon. When I first started stamping, I started collecting pop can tabs and never really used on a card (only on the very first altered mini clipboards I made as gifts). I try to be as frugal as I can with my supplies and I give a thumbs up for anything I can use that I have around the house.

You're One in a Melon

Over the next two weeks, Sheetload of Cards is pairing up with the Cutting Cafe DT to make some fabulous samples using the sketch from the June issue.

My card uses the Fruit Greetings printable stamp set. This was such a fun set to play with. For this card, I chose to make a 3.75 x 8.5 size card to accomodate the size of the watermelon. Since watermelon is a summer fruit, I decided to use bright colored patterned paper to showcase the image and sentiment. Don't the papers remind of you a picnic at the park? I watercolored the image as well as covered the the inside of the watermelon with Aleene's paper glaze for more of a 3D effect. After the paper glaze dried, it made it look like such an edible snack - looks good enough to eat! This is a birthday card who will be going to one of my girlfriends who is definitely "One in a Melon."
