Sheetload of Cards/Shortcuts Intersite Sponsorship with Caardvarks

This week, Sheetload of Cards and the Shortcuts DT is pairing up with Caardvarks to make some fabulous samples using the sketch from the July issue. The Caardvarks DT are using Shortcuts products for their samples.


This is the second sample card featured in the July ezine. For this one, I created a 5.5 inch square card. This card uses an image called Cat and Butterfly from our July sponsor, Squigglefly. Instead of using fiber on the left hand side of the card, I cut a slit where the patterned paper slides through. I used my ruler and a pencil to lightly mark where I wanted the slit to end and how wide I wanted it. Then I used a craft knife and the ruler to make I was cutting a straight line. I slid patterned paper through and adhered the back with double stick tape (my all fave adhesive) making sure I did not put any tape where the patterned paper would show through the inside of the card. Otherwise, if the opening on the inside of the card bothered you, then you could attach a piece of cardstock on the back to hide the opening (which is what I did with this card) and can give you more writing space if you like writing novels like me - LOL! I used my classic circle nesties once the image was printed. I added a vellum sentiment from the DCWV "Quote Stacks" pad with some awesome Love and Friendship Quotes. I don't know why I didn't use the vellum quotes sooner. Since this vellum is a little more see-through, I added a brad on each end to keep it in place as well as two other brad embellies on each corner of the patterned paper. I wanted to keep this card simple and I think it came out just perfect.

MAKE IT YOUR OWN: Created a long slit on the side of the cardstock where the patterned paper slides in and added a vellum sentiment in place of the fiber. Vellum sentiment is held in place with brads. Size of card is 5.5 square.

Happy July 1st! New month...new sketch.

Sheetload of Cards July ezine is now open for business. You'll be seeing a lot of fantastic samples from the DT members as well as our guest artists. As you've already probably guessed from the sneak peek photos I posted on June 28, Squigglefly is sponsoring this month's ezine. I was so excited when I heard that they were going to be sponsoring my first assignment. I have been having so much fun with digi-stamps the past few months, it's going to be hard to go back to the rubbah!

Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!!! As I have already mentioned, this is the first Sheetload of Cards ezine that will be featuring my work. I am just so gitty with excitement! I am very fortunate to be part of such a huge outfit - thanks again Alicia for the opportunity!!! A BIG thanks to all of you loyal fans of Sheetload for making the ezine a success!

Anywho, this is the first sample you can feast your eyes on. I just love this image. My daughter was the inspiration behind this card. She is only 4 yrs old and loves and when I say loves, I mean she L-O-V-E-S music and dancing. This totally reminded me of her so this was the first card I made right away. She is my little rockstar and can seriously shake her booty! She's got rhythm! My son loves to music and dancing too but a little stiff (sssshhhh, just like DH - ok, you did not hear me say that). The image was printed at 3.25 x 1.82 inches and colored with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil (colors I used are little below). I printed the image a second time, colored it and popped it up using Scotch mounting tape. The letter "U" was cut with the little Cricut using the Plantin Schoolbook cart (roly poly feature). The sentiment "rock" is computer generated using Georgia font (size 20). It's hard to see in the pic, but I added some bling/glitter to the letter "U" and sentiment. I used classic oval nesties to showcase the image. I just love the ribbon pleating technique and thought this would add some pizzazz to the card. Amy (aka Pickletree from SCS) created a cool tutorial you can find here. I added scalloped border on top and bottom of the patterned paper using my SU slit punch - love that using that thing!
