The Butterfly Project

Good afternoon fellow crafters! I would like to take some time to make a quick post about a worthy cause my fellow Sheetloads DT member, Heather, informed us about. She is also a reporter for Craft Critique and they asking for your help to donate some butterfly creations to send to the Holocaust Museum in Houston by September 15.

This is not only open to crafters, but you can get all of your friends and family members (I am sure the kids would love to create their own butterflies) involved to help the museum collect 1.5 million butterflies for display. Each butterfly represents a memorial to all of the innocent children who lost their lives during the Holocaust.

Check out this link at Craft Critique for more deets on how the Butterfly project came about as well as getting details on the butterfly creation requirements and mailing address : THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT

A link to The Butterfly Project will remain on my sidebar until September 15 in case you need to come back at a later time for the details.

Thank you in advance for your help! Please help spread the word!

A Wink and a Smile - Sheetload of Cards July Sample Card #2

This week, Sheetload of Cards and the Shortcuts DT is pairing up with Caardvarks to make some fabulous samples using the sketch from the July issue. The Caardvarks DT are using Shortcuts products for their samples.

This is the second sample card featured in the July ezine. For this one, I created a 5.5 inch square card. This card uses an image called Cat and Butterfly from our July sponsor, Squigglefly. Instead of using fiber on the left hand side of the card, I cut a slit where the patterned paper slides through. I used my ruler and a pencil to lightly mark where I wanted the slit to end and how wide I wanted it. Then I used a craft knife and the ruler to make I was cutting a straight line. I slid patterned paper through and adhered the back with double stick tape (my all fave adhesive) making sure I did not put any tape where the patterned paper would show through the inside of the card. Otherwise, if the opening on the inside of the card bothered you, then you could attach a piece of cardstock on the back to hide the opening (which is what I did with this card) and can give you more writing space if you like writing novels like me - LOL! I used my classic circle nesties once the image was printed. I added a vellum sentiment from the DCWV "Quote Stacks" pad with some awesome Love and Friendship Quotes. I don't know why I didn't use the vellum quotes sooner. Since this vellum is a little more see-through, I added a brad on each end to keep it in place as well as two other brad embellies on each corner of the patterned paper. I wanted to keep this card simple and I think it came out just perfect.

Make some time to participate and you might just win some fab prizes too! Make sure to stop by the other DT's blogs and Caardvarks blog to see their fabulous samples this week.

Digital Stamps: Squigglefly (Cat and Butterfly)
Patterned Paper: Unkown
Cardstock: Unkown (Kraft, Vanilla)
Sentiment: DCWV (Vellum Quote Stacks)
Brads: Jo-Ann's (Vintage); Die Cut: Spellbinders (Classic Circles)

MAKE IT YOUR OWN: Created a long slit on the side of the cardstock where the patterned paper slides in and added a vellum sentiment in place of the fiber. Vellum sentiment is held in place with brads. Size of card is 5.5 square.

Angels Landing: DT Featured Project - A Gift Set for Sparky

Today, I have two samples I wish to share with you using Angels Landing images. I just can't seem to put the Toys on Wheels and Alphabet Train digi-stamp sets down. I keep coming up with ideas - it's so ridiculous!

It is my job to show you how versatile these digi sets are and this time I created a gift set to welcome a new member of the family. Toys on Wheels not only caters to our human baby counterparts but also our furry little babies. My sister's family adopted a puppy not too long ago and thought this would be the perfect little gift. This would be, in essence, her first ever pet. She has a 2 yr old daughter and they bonded very quickly. She named him Sparky after a stuffed animal she had gotten as a gift from one of the grandmas. She did not want to confuse her daughter so the name kind of stuck. I think it suits the little guy pretty good.

I had been dying to try Tracy Harp's Box O' Animal Crackers tutorial (you can find it here) and this was the perfect opportunity, but I adjusted it to suit my project. The box stands 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide. It is so cute! For the flap I put a little piece of velcro to keep it closed (Tracy used a big brad on hers, but I don't have any of those on hand). I created my window with an oval coluzzle cutter. I put a baggie of biscuits in the box. I also added a little doggy (like he's looking through a window full of biscuits - YUM!).

For the frame, I used a 5x7 acrylic frame that I bought from Wal-mart so my sister can show off her puppy. I customized the bottom with the puppy's name on it using the Alphabet Train digi set. The letters were printed in size 1.5 x 1.29 inches.

And last not least, a gift set wouldn't be complete without a matching card. I had real fun with this one. Everyone who has a pet knows how much they become so much part of the family so I created a big heart cut with the Cricut and Design Studio software (from Okieladybug's Scrap N' More - click for .svg file here) and adhered a doggy popped up on dimensionals on top of it. I had some leather lace I bought from Wal-mart last year and thought this would be the perfect embellie so I printed off another doggy image. Only the head is popped up this time so that the leash sits just underneath the neck - the rest of the leash is glued on to the rest of the card. I used the blank tag from Pierced Tags and the sentiment "Good Boy" is computer generated using the font called Freebooter in size 36. I distressed the tag with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tea Dye. It usually takes me awhile to come up with a card layout without using a sketch, but this came out pretty quickly. Both cardstock layers were embossed with the Argyle and Hearts Block embossing folders. Gotta love the cuttlebug.

There you have it - a gift for Sparky!

Ribbon: Tejas Lace Company (Black Leather Lace for leash)

Angels Landing: DT Featured Project - Little Lambs CD Case

For my second project this week, I created a simple CD case to house a CD full of pictures from my son's preschool graduation. I told his teacher that I would give a copy of the pictures I took so that she could combine all of the pictures together from the year to give to all of the parents who ordered a CD. I did not have an extra CD case handy so why not make one?

The template I used for the CD case came from Steph315 on SCS (you can find it here). Real simple to make. I made a bunch of these for the holidays to give to family. Since the preschool is called Little Lambs, the appropriate image to use was the lamb from Toys on Wheels digi-stamp set. The lamb was printed in size 2.5 x 2.3 inches and the body is adorned with glitter and the rest is colored with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil. I topped it off with patterned paper, scalloped border, and gingham ribbon.

U Rock - July '09 Sheetload of Cards Sample

July '09 Sheetload of Cards ezine Download

Happy July 1st! New month...new sketch.

Sheetload of Cards July ezine is now open for business. You'll be seeing a lot of fantastic samples from the DT members as well as our guest artists. As you've already probably guessed from the sneak peek photos I posted on June 28, Squigglefly is sponsoring this month's ezine. I was so excited when I heard that they were going to be sponsoring my first assignment. I have been having so much fun with digi-stamps the past few months, it's going to be hard to go back to the rubbah!

Can I get a WOOT WOOT?!!! As I have already mentioned, this is the first Sheetload of Cards ezine that will be featuring my work. I am just so gitty with excitement! I am very fortunate to be part of such a huge outfit - thanks again Alicia for the opportunity!!! A BIG thanks to all of you loyal fans of Sheetload for making the ezine a success!

Anywho, this is the first sample you can feast your eyes on. I just love this image. My daughter was the inspiration behind this card. She is only 4 yrs old and loves and when I say loves, I mean she L-O-V-E-S music and dancing. This totally reminded me of her so this was the first card I made right away. She is my little rockstar and can seriously shake her booty! She's got rhythm! My son loves to music and dancing too but a little stiff (sssshhhh, just like DH - ok, you did not hear me say that). The image was printed at 3.25 x 1.82 inches and colored with prismacolor pencils blended with baby oil (colors I used are little below). I printed the image a second time, colored it and popped it up using Scotch mounting tape. The letter "U" was cut with the little Cricut using the Plantin Schoolbook cart (roly poly feature). The sentiment "rock" is computer generated using Georgia font (size 20). It's hard to see in the pic, but I added some bling/glitter to the letter "U" and sentiment. I used classic oval nesties to showcase the image. I just love the ribbon pleating technique and thought this would add some pizzazz to the card. Amy (aka Pickletree from SCS) created a cool tutorial you can find here. I added scalloped border on top and bottom of the patterned paper using my SU slit punch - love that using that thing!

In the next couple of weeks, I will be featuring my other works of art showcased in the July ezine so make sure to come back and check 'em out!

Just a quick reminder...a new month means a chance to win some fabulous prizes. Enter for a chance to win during the month for the "Shoutout to Sheetload" and "Show Us Your Sheetload" challenges. Contest will end on July 31!
